What is the Jr. Livestock Auction

Every year, the youth in San Bernardino County participate in a meaningful program through livestock projects, where they raise animals like swine, beef, lambs and goats for the county fair. Beyond the cost of purchasing the animals, the youth are responsible for their care, feeding, training and grooming. These projects teach valuable life skills, including communication, organization, cooperation, responsibility and financial management. The experience helps young people develop strong personal values that can benefit their communities. At the fair, their hard work is recognized as the animals are judged and sold at the Junior Livestock Auction.

Your participation in the Junior Livestock Auction provides encouragement and financial support for the promotion of traditions and ethics in America's Youth.

As a learning and business venture, these youth have selected, fed and groomed beef cattle, dairy replacement heifers, lambs, goats, hogs, rabbit meat pens, poultry meat pens and turkeys.

Each youth is free to use the proceeds as they wish, however the money earned usually goes back into their next project, or to help pay for vocational school or college.

BUY THE BEST

When you purchase a market animal from a Junior Livestock exhibitor, you're buying home-grown, high quality and flavorful meat. The talent of our youth exhibitors can guarantee that you are truly buying the BEST! Here's what you can expect from your purchase of a market animal:

Beef: Ranges from 1,000-1,400 pounds in weight. A typical 1,200 pound steer will yield approximately 680 pounds of wrapped meat. Typically it will cost around $5,500 to raise a beef for the show.

Swine: Ranges from 210-285 pounds in weight. A typical 250 pound swine will yield approximately 180 pounds of wrapped meat. It cost around $1,000 to raise a pig for the show.

Benefits of Participation
  • Satisfaction of supporting the successful leaders of tomorrow!
  • A freezer full of the finest quality meat available on the market today
  • Charitable tax deductions (please consult your CPA)
  • Public recognition and advertising for your company or organization

Don't forget Agriculture Mechanics!

In addition to livestock projects, the San Bernardino County Fair also showcases the talents of youth in welding, woodworking and other skills. Be sure to check out the Agriculture Mechanic projects, where you can see the impressive items created by the youth and even purchase them to take home. The Silent Auction will be active until the end of the day on Saturday, May 31, 2024. So don't miss out on this opportunity to support their hard work!

HOW CAN I SUPPORT WITHOUT PURCHASING AN ANIMAL?

If you are not looking to purchase meat, you can also support individuals by making an add-on donation. The add-on will be added to the participants check to help offset their investment.
**All purchases and add-ons are TAX DEDUCTIBLE**
